Dulce de leche financiers - a genius idea
One of the things I love the most about financiers is how moist and tender they are – their texture is really amazing. Besides that, financiers are a great way to use up frozen egg whites and they’re perfect for a baking urge as well – you don’t have to wait for the butter to soften to make these little beauties.
With a jar of dulce de leche in my pantry – apparently the ddl frenzy hasn’t

Dulce de leche cheesecake squares + some great villains
I’ve already told you how much I adore Christian Bale and I think he’s a perfect Batman but after watching the trailers for “The Dark Knight Rises” – cannot wait for July to come! – I have the feeling that he’ll be eclipsed by Tom Hardy on the movie just as he was eclipsed by Cillian Murphy and Heath Ledger on “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight”, respectively. I love it when great actors are

Almond and dulce de leche muffins
Besides being someone who watches the same movies over and over again I also purchase ingredients in excess, though I’ve been dealing with that a lot better lately (since the inventory decision). But when I saw some really good Argentinean dulce de leche for a great price at the supermarket I could not resist: I brought home three (very large) jars. After making the dulce de leche cake several

Dulce de leche pound cake
As I was updating my list of books – a couple of new additions as I told you a while ago – I kept thinking of ways to make it more functional and interesting: therefore, I’ve changed it a bit. I hope you all like it.
Oh, aside from books, there is cake here today, too – and it is absolutely divine. :)

Dulce de leche crêpe cake with Suzette sauce
Before I give you the recipe for this delicious dessert, I have to confess something: I cheated. See those pretty little citrus segments on top of the crepe cakes? I did not cut those. I suck at segmenting citrus fruit. After murdering two oranges trying to finish up the recipe I gave up – and reached for the jar of mandarins in syrup I had gotten in a Christmas basket and thought I would never

Pao de mel macarons
I think the macaron bug has bitten me. :)After my passion fruit-scented victory, I desperately felt like making macarons again; inspired by my lovely macaron muses – Julia, Aran, Meeta, Evan, and Your Highness, the Queen – I tried to come up with a different flavor, so I used spices, cocoa and dulce de leche and tried to evoke the flavors of pao de mel, which is something everyone loves here in

Dulce de leche profiteroles
A while ago, I told you I saw no fun in using Twitter. Well, my dear readers, that has changed – and I have my Brazilian friend Tina Lopes to blame. I still don’t twit a lot, but my opinion about it is definitely different now. :)
Another Brazilian friend – hi, Lu! – and I were twitting about how I’d once tried making a croquembouche using a recipe from “Feast” and it turned out to be a

Alfajores
I’m kind of tired of war movies – don’t get me wrong, there are wonderful ones out there, I just think that maybe I have seen too many in a short period of time. But tell me, how will I be able to resist such a beautiful poster? In the same way, you must be tired of seeing so many cookies around here. Bear with me, please – it’s just one more thing I cannot resist. :)The alfajores were a present

Toffee apple shortbreads
Joao and I went to Sao Paulo’s Mercado Municipal last weekend – the one Anthony Bourdain visited in one episode of “No Reservations”; btw, I’ve read he said some mean things about the city. I hope he never comes back, thank you very much.
Mercado Municipal is a very traditional market, full of lots of types of food and ingredients, but it was my first time there. I went crazy with all the

Dulce de leche cake for my dad's birthday
My father has a weakness for dulce de leche; well, pretty much everyone I know does. :) So it was easy to choose his birthday cake.
His birthday is today, but we celebrated it last Saturday – a small group of great people, good food... I’m glad Dad liked it.
I laughed my heart out when he arrived and looked at the cake – there were two big candles with the numbers “6” and “0”.

Chocolate cola cake with toasted coconut-almond frosting
I usually write about my sister, Jessica, but rarely mention my brother, Joao Paulo – he’s the funniest person I have ever met. Even though sometimes I think he’s 12, he turned 27 last week, on the 26th.
Jessica’s brother from her mother’s first marriage (wow, that was complicated), Julio Cesar, celebrates his birthday a day before – it’s such a coincidence. He’s 29 now, like me, and is the
