Sticky lemon and poppy seed cake (with a secret ingredient)
Not that I need a reason for baking a lemon cake (we all know that) but to be honest this recipe got my attention because of the addition of finely ground oats to the batter – what might seem like a plan to trick picky eaters into eating more fiber turned out to be one of the best cakes I’ve made: great texture, moist and oh, so delicious.

I can’t remember how I got to this link, but I

Tangerine-poppy seed chiffon cake
Up until a couple of weekends ago the only chiffon cakes I’d baked were layer cakes: they were delicious and perfect for birthday celebrations, but I wanted to make one of those tall, elegant chiffon cakes (baked in tube pans) I’d seen on some cookbooks and blogs. I chose this recipe because I love tangerines and the idea of a cake made with them sounded very refreshing, exactly what that very

Passion fruit poppy seed pound cake
I bought a bag of beautiful, fragrant passion fruit to make Tessa Kiros’s passion fruit ice cream, but since there still was some strawberry cheesecake ice cream in the freezer I had to think of another use for the fruit. I thought of my good friend Ana Elisa, who I’d discussed Tessa’s book with once: I’d told her that I’d bought the book but hadn’t cooked from it yet, and how disappointing

Lemon-poppy seed cake with vanilla-cream cheese frosting and 4 years of blogging
Thank you all for the birthday wishes! You guys are the best! ♥
I turned 32 a couple of days ago, and this blog turns 4 today – for this double celebration I baked a lemon cake (and please let’s pretend you are surprised with the flavor choice). :D

Honey poppy seed cakes with orange icing
Knowing how much I adore Donna Hay, my lovely friend Valentina sent me the links to Donna’s appearance in “Master Chef”; after watching the videos my love and admiration for her work are even bigger – she’s so adorable! I liked the videos so much I thought I should share them with you – parts 1, 2 and 3.
Speaking of Donna, these honey cakes come from Off The Shelf – but the poppy seeds and the

Banana poppy seed cake with lemon glaze
Last week my lovely Brazilian blogger friend Ana Elisa asked her followers if they wanted an apple or a banana recipe on her blog – I voted for banana, but the apple post won at the end and she published these mouthwatering apple fritters (I bookmarked the recipe immediately). :)
We’ll have bananas here, then, as a very tender and deliciously moist cake, made with bananas that had been in my

Silver poppy seed cake trifle
How can a trifle made with a slice of a very tender cake, topped with cream and berries and sprinkled with toasted almonds go wrong? Exactly – it can’t.
The same way a movie with Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Max von Sydow, Patricia Clarkson and Jackie Earle Haley directed by Mr. Scorsese just can go wrong – it has got to be one of the best things I have ever seen.
If you

Orange poppy seed sugar cookies
I have tried, people. I swear I have. I’ve baked with strawberries and bananas to shake things up a little around here. But then I go to Joy’s beautiful blog and there is this amazing column there, on the right, called “citrus bits”, full of mouthwatering photos... I gave in. :DThese cookies are very easy to make and you can freeze one of the dough logs for later – but I don’t think that’s gonna

Lime poppy seed muffins
If my blog were a soccer championship, the Lemon Team would be on their way to grab the Cup. But I felt that would not be fair to the other citrus I love so much – poor limes and oranges haven’t been around here in a while. :(In order to balance the score, I used limes instead of lemons in these muffins – the recipe comes from the lovely and dear Lynne, who was also kind enough to ship me a box

Lemon poppy seed cookies... And no poppy seeds in Brazil
After posting this cake, I received several emails and comments from people here in Brazil asking me where I had bought poppy seeds, because they couldn’t find the seeds anywhere. I had no idea there was something going on – I had purchased the package a while before that.I call the store I usually buy spices from and the employee told me that poppy seeds had been forbidden in Brazil for a while;

Passion fruit, almond and poppy seed cake
Besides the music I listen to, there’s something else on repeat mode around here - yes, another recipe with almonds. :)It would take 1 ½ hours for the coffee cake to double in volume and there was nothing good on TV - that happens quite often. I like things most people consider weird and they are not aired very frequently.“I’ll bake cookies. No, I’ll need the oven soon - I’ll bake a cake”The

A Taste of Yellow: Orange Poppy Seed Madeleines
The lovely Barbara is hosting “A Taste of Yellow” for the second time and it’s an honor for me to take part in this event again.Last year, my entry was a lime polenta cake; this time, I felt like making something with a Brazilian flair. I chose quindim but unfortunately it was a disaster. I don’t know if it was me or the usual lack of details in traditional, old Brazilian recipes, but my attempt

The Daring Bakers present: Bagels
When I read that this month’s challenge was to make bagels, I was very excited – I’d never tasted the famous bread and what a nice chance to do so!I loved the dough: delicious to be kneaded and rises like no other. I also had loads of fun with the whole “making of”… I just felt sad about the look of the bagels – they’re so ugly, the poor things. Wrinkled like a Shar-Pei. :(Anyway, I thought the
